1000 Yard Shoot
In 1974, the first 1000 yard shoot originated from a bet between four guys. One guy stating that a British 303 rifle, with iron sights and factory ammunition, could be used to hit a target T 1000 yards. The others strongly disagreed, saying that a 303 couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn.
The shooter persuaded a couple of local gun enthusiasts into setting up a 303 rifle. After testing several 303s, one was elected and equipped with a good aperture sight. Five boxes of ammunition later, the rifle was sighted in and ready to go.
In the early spring of 1975, the first 1000 yard shoot took place on Decker Lake. The 1000 yard shoot has continued ever since. Over the years, the range has changed from various places in the area to a permanent approved range at the Tweedsmuir Park Rod & Gun Club in Burns Lake, BC.
In 1998 after completing the building of the range, it was named the “Thompson & Waldron Range” in honour of the two shooters who spent years getting permission to build the range.

Burns Lake Show & Shine
You’ll spot them by the well-worn toolboxes, coffee in hand, and a gleam in their eye that rivals the shine on their bumpers. The old guys—the chrome whisperers—are half mechanic, half historian, and full-time storytellers. They’ll tighten a bolt with one hand while telling you about the time they “outran a cop in ’68” (or so the legend goes). For them, it's not just about horsepower—it’s about friendships forged in garages, the smell of carb cleaner, and the sacred ritual of “just one more adjustment.” Hang around long enough, and you’re bound to hear a tale or two that’s part fact, part myth, and 100% awesome.
Each year, the Burns Lake Show and Shine rolls into town the first Sunday after Father’s Day, bringing with it a weekend packed with good vibes, gleaming chrome, and unforgettable memories.
🚗 Saturday Car Cruise: The weekend kicks off with a high-energy cruise, where classic cars roll along scenic routes in a moving tribute to automotive history. It’s the perfect way to get revved up for what’s to come.
🌞 Sunday Car Show: This is the heart of the event. Car lovers from all over gather to showcase their lovingly restored rides. Expect a sun-drenched spectacle of polished chrome, roaring engines, and vintage beauty.
🗺️ Sunday Bonus Fun – Extra Cruise or Poker Run/Treasure Hunt: To round out the weekend, there's often another cruise or a lighthearted poker run or treasure hunt—an awesome way to wrap things up while connecting with fellow enthusiasts.
