Notice of Public Hearing
Notice is hereby given that a Public Hearing affecting "Village of Burns Lake Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 970, 2017" will be held on January 27, 2026, at 7:00 pm. This public hearing will be held both in person at the Village of Burns Lake Council Chambers located at 15-3rd Avenue, Burns Lake, BC, and electronically as per Ministerial Order M192 via Zoom.
"Village of Burns Lake Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 970, 2017" is proposed to be amended by Bylaw No. 1101 that would update the OCP to incorporate recently introduced provincial requirements for housing needs, density changes to support several high-density housing projects currently proposed within the Village
The purpose of this bylaw is to amend the OCP to remove residential density limits and update the entire housing section. This includes an updated residential land inventory to show how much land is currently designated and zoned to allow new housing (up to 626 dwelling units). The OCP has much more land designated for residential development than is needed to meet the 20-year housing need of 173 dwelling units.
As also required by the province, policies and statements have been added and/or identified that address:
- Affordable housing
- Rental housing
- Special needs housing
- Senior's housing
- Family housing
- Housing for individuals experiencing homelessness and individuals at risk of homelessness
- Housing in close proximity to transportation infrastructure that supports walking, bicycling, public transit or other alternative forms of transportation

At the Public Hearing all persons who believe that their interest in property is affected by the proposal shall be afforded a reasonable opportunity to be heard respecting matters contained in the bylaw that is the subject of the Public Hearing.
Written submissions sent by mail to P.O. Box 570, Burns Lake, BC, V0J 1E0; by fax to (250) 692-3059; or by e-mail to village@burnslake.ca must be received by the Village of Burns Lake no later than January 27, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. to be ensured of consideration at the Public Hearing.
A copy of the bylaw and other relevant information may be inspected at the municipal office between the hours of 8:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. A copy of the bylaw and other relevant information will also be made available online at http://office.burnslake.ca/.
